2020 Booya Schedule

Booya is a hearty stew cooked up in large cauldrons for fundraisers

Excerpts of  Jess Fleming’s article was Published on September 9, 2020

Social and Political Distancing could not keep the local tradition of holding a Booya from being offered this year, come rain, snow, sleet, or shine, or pandemic.

Booya might mean something to another part of the country but in the Upper Midwest it means a thick stew that is mixed and cooked up in a giant vat, or 55 gallon drum and served at non-profits and churches by the bowl until it’s gone.

Jess Fleming posts, “We do have a very notable newcomer this year in Saint Paul Brewing (688 E. Minnehaha Ave., St. Paul; 651-698-1945; stpaulbrewing.com) Map HD67B, which will be serving booya from 3 p.m. until close on Thursday nights, starting Sept. 17. If you haven’t been to the brewery, it was recently taken over by the owners of Can Can Wonderland and the previously primitive patio transformed into something that can best be described as an art park with lots of seating and beer, of course. They also serve really good wood fired pizzas.

If your organization is holding a Booya, please send your information to eat@pioneerpress.com, and Jess Fleming will add it to their list.

While Booyas are not political in nature, we’ll add an extra notation of what Minnesota House District each Booya is located in case your House District group wants to meet there.
