If you are a delegate or alternate to House District 66B Republicans you should have received your Tele-Convention Call by now.
There is an Eventbrite about it sent out by the Republican Party of Minnesota which has a special code created just for you to enter. Then there is a $5.00 fee the State Party is charging to verify who you are.
As the HD 66B Republican Chair I objected to their charging the fee as it violates their constitution of NOT requiring a fee to participate. First the money goes to them not us, and I think they should be able to verify who people are by some other means such as entering your state Voter ID number (yes you have one, it’s listed in the GOP DataCenter database). To allow people to come to their own convention without an impediment. I complained enough as my financial situation couldn’t afford a fee, Chair Carnahan-Hagedorn waived the fee for me. If you would like your fee reimbursed to you as Chair I can authorize it, though at the next bpou meeting whenever 10 or more people can meet we can vote on it. However we have roughly $600+ in the bpou bank account.
Registration Starts on March 25, Ends March 27
Keep in mind to Register for the Convention you need to go to the Eventbrite link hd66b.eventbrite.com. There you’ll enter in your personalized code. Enter the phone number you’ll be using, indicate if you need a printed ballot too so you can vote for the CD 4 and State Convention Delegates. So you don’t need the internet to participate just a separate phone number in case you live with another delegate or alternate.
You can self nominate for either the CD4 or State Delegate/Alternates. If you have questions contact our MNGOP staffer Spencer Krier. His number is 507-402-7530.
Follow the Directions on the Call sent to you. The registration period ends 24 hours prior to the convention, which starts at 10:00 am on March 28th.
Party Platform Resolution to Vote On
There was one Party Platform that passed on Caucus Night, February 25, 2020. Delegate Elizabeth “Lizz” Paulson from St Paul Ward 5 Precinct 8 proposed the following resolution:
Property Taxes shall not be used to fund public schools, MN Public school districts and publicly funded education shall be paid for by State and Federal taxes.Elizabeth Paulson, Delegate St Paul Ward 5 Precinct 8
During the convention if Mrs Paulson would like to explain the scope of this resolution in a 1-2 minute explanation she will be recognized. Discussion if necessary with pro and con speakers then an up or down vote will ensue.
Uncontested Senate District 66 Endorsement
Since there is only one Senate District 66 Republican Candidate Greg Copeland, and we meet as separate House Districts A & B, we can do separate endorsements for Candidate Copeland.
I just called the State Party and asked how this can be accomplished. Chair Carnahan-Hagedorn said we can vote for Greg Copeland here on the B Side. If there are no objections or anyone else running. Then the A Side would have to vote on April 11th. If there are no objections there. For an endorsement from the SD 66 Republicans there would have to be 60% of seated delegates and alternates from the total to be considered endorsed.
So Candidate Greg Copeland should speak on his candidacy briefly on the 28th and at the HD 66A Republicans Convention as well.
Once again we thank the Republican Party of Minnesota for helping us with our convention in the time period of physical distancing during this Chinese Virus period. We thank you for your patience and we pray for your safety.
We will get through this together and be stronger.
Tom Polachek, HD 66B Republicans Chair
