MN Voters Alliance on Minnesota Constitutional Ballot Question is Misleading

MN Constitutional Ballot Question Title: Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund Renewal

If you haven’t voted yet, or if you have you probably have seen this Minnesota Constitutional Ballot Question on either the actual ballot or the “What’s on my Ballot?” link on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website. You might be wondering what is going on with this Constitutional Ballot Question.

Well the language of it is misleading. Most reading it above, will scratch their heads and think that the “Legacy” Fund is coming to an end and there needs to be a renewal vote. That’s not true.

The Misleading Constitutional Ballot Question Explained

To explain how misleading this Constitutional Ballot Question is there was a note sent out to those on the MN Voters Alliance email list, by the Executive Director of the Minnesota Voters Alliance, Andy Cilek. So we asked if we  could repost his note about this issue, and by permission here is his explanation.

MN Voters Alliance Explanation

There are some important details voters should be aware of before casting a vote on the measure:

  • Although this proposal does renew the money to be spent on conservation issues, it will result in a change of how the funds are allocated and removes the Legislature from the decision-making process and oversight.
  • This would increase the amount of funds collected through the lottery allocated and added to the programs by 20%.  With these new funds, they will be disbursed based on equity and disparities (DEI) by a new commission/taskforce with one like the composition of the new flag commission.  Eleven positions must be appointed by the Advisory Council and must include 4 tribe members and 4 members from communities of color.  These funds will be handed out through grants to non-profits

Although MVA [MN Voters Alliance] is not in support of, nor in opposition to, this referendum, we want to make voters aware of important information so they can make an informed vote.

A no vote does not remove the funding from the original amendment/implementation because it has not expired.  The current money will continue to fund environmental programs as Minnesotans desire and can be extended, when it does expire, by a simple renewal by the Legislature.

A yes vote would extend the dedication of revenue from the state-operated lottery to the Environment and Natural Resources Fund through December 31, 2050; increase the amount of money that can be spent from the fund each year from 5.5% to 7.0% of the fund’s market value; and create a grant program to provide funding for projects related to addressing environmental issues in affected communities, environmental education, and natural resource conservation.

**MN Voters Alliance is not for or against this measure, but this website, mnhd66brepublicans.org suggests you Vote NO on this measure.

Our Reasons to VOTE NO on the Constitutional Ballot Question:

  • The Ballot Question in the way it’s worded is misleading
  • It takes the decision of how the money is allocated away from the Elected Body of the Legislature.
  • It embraces DEI
  • It requires an Advisory Board of 11 who are 4/11 Tribal Members as well as 4/11 a specific group by the color of their skin, plus 3 people who don’t have a specific requirement of who they are (not equal representation of the people who live here).
  • It also hands off more money to nonprofit organizations with no oversight of how the money is spent by those groups.
  • There’s nothing wrong with the current Constitutional Amendment which created the Environment and Natural Resources Fund, and it hasn’t expired yet.

Of course this is only a suggestion. You still do have free will in this state. If there is to be a readjustment in the way the money is spent it can go through hearings at the Committee at the State Legislature that oversees it. If this measure passes, your direct input may be taken away like our State Flag and State Seal was.

HD 66B Republicans are not associated in any way with the MN Voters Alliance. It is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and if you would like to know more about them check out their website at mnvoters.org/about-us. — admin.

The Candidates in HD 66A

Fadil Jama,  website: FadilJama.com

HD 66A Republican Fadil Jama

Rep Leigh Finke

Known for:

  • The Tampons in Boys Bathrooms in Public Schools bill. Governor Tim Walz unfairly gets blamed and teased for this bill, but he signed it into law.
  • Making Minnesota into a Sanctuary State for Gender Affirming Care (aka Child Sterilization) without the consent of a parent, nor any informed consent. This is not “Reproductive Freedom” for these poor victims who will never have children of their own.
  • Ban on counseling for LGBTQ people who want to become “Straight” (It violates Religious Freedom as often Pastors are on the front lines of this issue). It is a confusing title as it’s a ban on Conversion Therapy. The conversion is not related to becoming transgender.
  • Ban on Assault Weapons
  • Changing Pedophilia into a sexual orientation
  • Was the USA Today’s 2022 Woman of the Year. Leigh Finke is really a man named Chris Zumski Finke.
  • He has written a few books aimed at children, “Queerfully & Wonderfully Made,” and “Welcoming & Affirming.”

Rep Athena Hollins

Known for:

  • Author of the Conversion Therapy Ban. This is a First Amendment violation of the Religious Establishment Law as noted above in Rep Finke’s list, pastors tend to be targeted by laws like this.
  • Tells people she is a Pansexual, as if she thinks people care more about her sexuality than representing the people of the District.
  • Was for Rep Dave Pinto’s Universal Background Check on private sales and admits it won’t stop gun violence, and she owns a gun
  • Was for the Red Flag Gun Law. She’s a lawyer and knows that this law would circumvent due process.
  • Author of the Universal Basic Income legislation that failed to pass. It would give those that qualify for it from $500 to $1200 per month. The money would not be counted as income, yet the title of it indicates it is an income.  Everywhere it has been tried it usually increases taxes on income earners and produces a lot of resentment, and in some European Countries it is canceled quickly.
  • Advocates Ranked Choice Voting, Automatic voter registration, Felons Voting (without getting their other rights back)

If you watch any of these League of Liberal Women Voters Forums you’ll see what not to do if you run a debate.

  • They mash together 2 Districts in one Debate which makes 4 candidates with 2 views. Often times the weaker candidate in the other district will get talking points from their colleague in the other district
  • They don’t have great sound quality to their forums. It’s laughable being they are in a building with the equipment to have good sound quality: The SPNN Studios. Sometimes the LLWV will have no microphones for the candidates to use like the Special Election in 2011 for Ward 1, and in Ward 3 in 2023.
  • They don’t use questions from Conservatives in any of their forums. They use questions that don’t allow their Liberal pals to be either accountable for their actions in office, or be uncomfortable in answering them.  They ask questions that prop up Liberal talking points like the legitimacy of Climate Change, Achievement Gap, Equity & Inclusion. None of these ideas can be tested with science and can be proved to true, nor be anything other than issues that no one cares about.
  • They will also cancel forums without warning to Republican Candidates, but will run them when they can’t attend.

There needs to be standards at the State Level that must be met in order for a host of a Debate to run them.  The LWV is not nonpartisan as they claim. They get away with a lot of their schtick because there’s no competition. Look at our Public Schools, there is no competition to teach kids and therefore they can be slack in their efforts, same goes for having forums/debates.

2024 #ProLifeSunday Brothers Sisters & Cousins Day August 11th

Call up your brothers, sisters & cousins and thank them for being who they are.

We are continuing the #ProLifeSunday celebration of the family by recognizing where Brothers, Sisters, and Cousins fit into the family. Every part of a family is an important piece of the total picture of happiness and prosperity that God wants for us.

Sometimes things don’t go swimmingly well and usually it stems from sibling rivalries, sibling jealousies, and sibling covetousness of each other. In these cases the parents and other elders of the family have to smooth things out. If they don’t these rumblings turn into deep divides between Brothers & Sisters that drive them away from each other when they become adults.

Learning how to make peace with your brothers, sisters and even your cousins is a microcosm on how to heal the world outside of your home.

Growing up one learns from the lessons, trials and errors learned of dealing with your sisters and brothers.

Brothers, Sisters and Cousins still are interested in you because you have a shared history together. You’ve learned about life together years apart or in the backseat of a Chevy Suburban going to California on a summer vacation.  They sent letters and cookies to you when you were at summer camp or when you were in the military. They beat up a bully at school for you. Taught you to bowl at the local bowling alley, or taught you to play pool in the basement of the Moose lodge before you learned to read.

If you’re unsure of where you stand with your Brothers, Sisters, and Cousins, call them up this Sunday or some time during the week to get back on better terms with them.  Go on, they’ll be glad you were thinking of them.

The last week of the Minnesota Legislative Session brought out all sorts of last minute “gotcha” bills that pass on party line votes usually. There was one “garbage” bill that was 2800 pages long dropped on the legislature about 90 minutes to the End of Session on May 19th. It could have been the last week of the DFL Trifecta, where they control both Bodies of the Legislature, plus the Governor’s Office. Frankly they also control the State Supreme Court as well. The last Republican leaning Justice is Barry Anderson who just retired.

Please honor our event host site by keeping politics out of the bar area outside of the event room. Thank you
